Independent child, RCAF War Veteran, forester, teacher. Born July 22, 1920 in Bathurst, New Brunswick; died peacefully of natural causes December 11, 2015, at home in London, Ontario, age 95. Wallace volunteered for military duty, and served overseas in the ranks of the Royal Canadian Air Force until the end of World War II. Upon discharge, he completed his high school matriculation and Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of New Brunswick. While the first half of his career was spent in the forestry industry, he later discovered his true vocation as a secondary school teacher. In retirement, he developed a passion for gardening and happily shared the resulting bounty with neighbours. He is survived by his wife Cynthia, children Wilma Doucet, Robert Montgomery (Debbie), David Montgomery (Marianne), Janice Howard-Smith (Fred), Leslie Montgomery (Bob), Allan Montgomery, Cheryl Montgomery, Hilary Montgomery-Pumaren (Richard) and fifteen grandchildren; step-children Ellen Sangster, Claire Hutchison, Katherine Maddux and Jane Spencer. Predeceased by first wife Iris Constance Sandy. The family wishes to express its sincere thanks to the wonderful staff of the VON and the In Spirit Residence for their competence, compassion and caring. A memorial service will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home at11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2015 with visitation an hour prior from 10:00-11:00a.m.. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
