<div itemprop="description">Robert Vernon Furneaux <br /> <br /> Passed away peacefully on Saturday January 30, 2016 at University Hospital, London in his 93rd year. <br /> Born December 1, 1923 in St. Catharine&rsquo;s ON. Youngest son of Grace and Thomas Furneaux, brother of Norm, predeceased. Adoring husband and best friend of Sylvia Mary (Peters) Furneaux, together they enjoyed 70 years of marriage. Loving and proud Dad and Grandpa to Jim, wife Barb and son Shaun; Barry and daughter Jessica and son Alex; Brian and sons Matthew and Brady and wife Glorianna, and Great-Grandpa to little Henry. Bob is survived by sisters in law Julie Thrasher and Evelyn Porn, and many nieces and nephews. Robert served in the RCAF as an air gunner in WW11. After being shot down over France, he and three of the crew were rescued by a French farmer, the Bertin family, and hidden for three months in a hay stack. With his help and the French Resistance, Robert made it to England Safely and eventually back to Canada and his fianc&eacute;e Sylvia. After the war Robert continued a career with the RCAF. The family had multiple postings throughout Canada and France. After the RCAF years, Bob worked for the Ontario Development Corporation. In retirement he enjoyed travelling with Sylvia (even back to the Bertin farm), coin collecting, and was an avid stamp collector, and his family. The last two years Robert resided at Chelsey Park Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with visitation one hour prior (12-1 p.m.) on Friday February 5th, 2016 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1997 Dundas St E, London (one block east of Clarke Rd).
