<div itemprop="description">Minister Emeritus P. John Varghese, Ph.L., B.A.,B.D., M.A., M.Ed., of London Ontario, passed away peacefully on Tuesday Dec 6, 2016 at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario surrounded by his wife and children.<br><br>Reverend John was born in Thiruvulla, Kerala, India on Dec 17, 1932. He taught at Bishop Moore College in Mavelikara, Kerala before coming to Canada in 1968 to complete a Masters of Arts at McGill. His wife and children would follow in 1970.<br><br>Reverend John was ordained into the United Church of Canada in 1981. He led ministries in communities across southern Ontario for over three decades, and his service continued until his recent illness; most recently he led the pastoral care team at Rowntree Memorial United Church. <br><br>John Varghese was one of 5 children born to Pothan John and Mariamma. He is survived by his sister Rosamma. He leaves behind his wife Susan, sons John (Colette), Jamie (Rachel), Philip, Joshua (Brittney), daughter Sheeba, and grandchildren Evan, Olivia, Jared, Sagesse, Selena, Pierson and Elysée.<br><br>Reverend John was a kind and generous soul. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family and strangers alike. He was an attentive father and grandfather who put five of his children through university. <br><br>John was an avid tennis and bridge player. He loved literature and learning throughout his life. His thirst for education fuelled the same desire in his children. His work ethic and compassion have been inherited by those he touched.<br><br>A special thank you to the critical care trauma team at Victoria Hospital, who made John’s final days pleasant and peaceful. <br><br>Visitation will be available from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 on Friday December 9, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1997 Dundas Street E. London. Funeral services for John will be held at Rowntree Memorial United Church, 156 Elliott Street London at 2:00 pm on Saturday December 10, 2016.<br><br>A donation can be made to the Mission and Service fund of the United Church of Canada in lieu of flowers.<br><br><br><br></div>
